The name of the town comes from the local dialect word cluse, meaning "passage between two mountains." Nestled among valleys and mountain passes, this authentic and accessible village was built on agropastoral traditions. With 1,752 residents (and over 20,000 tourist beds), it thrives year-round, cultivating a unique way of life that extends well beyond its renowned ski area. A land rich in champions and traditions, stories and innovation, La Clusaz is looking toward the future. With the ram as its emblem, the town continues to adapt, already preparing for its transition to address challenges related to climate change.

Classification

La Clusaz was designated a "tourist resort" by decree on May 25, 1956, and later as a "winter sports and mountaineering resort" by decree on June 18, 1969.
