A black grouse, deep asleep under the snow,
Peacefully dreamed in his lair with a warm glow.
Everywhere was still as winter was here,
When from his path, a mountaineer came near.
A black grouse, deep asleep under the snow,
Peacefully dreamed in his lair with a warm glow.
Everywhere was still as winter was here,
When from his path, a mountaineer came near.
Equipped with skis, poles and a big bag,
The mountaineer climbed, wrapped in an anorak.
He looked for some shelter to eat his snack,
Finding the hole where the bird was having a nap.
Unaware, he sat down and began to unwrap
Fragrant cheese and crusty bread from his pack.
The black grouse, awakened by the strong smell,
Stuck out his head, grumpily, from his restful dell.
“Hey man, are you crazy disturbing my sleep?
Until the sun returns, let me dream deep!” The mountaineer, surprised at what he just heard, Replied: “Sorry, I never meant to disturb you, dear bird”.
The angry grouse said, stamping his foot:
“My winter sleep is sacred, no ifs, no buts!
To sing in the spring and find me a wife,
I need to rest now, this is my life”.
The mountaineer, confused, jumped to his feet,
Put away his meal to find somewhere else to eat.
“I promise, dear grouse, I will disturb you no more,
And in the future, I’ll now know the score.”
The grouse, appeased, returned to his den,
Thinking a little education is good for these men.
Having learned his lesson, the man walked away,
And the bird went back to dreaming, nothing more to say.
And the moral of this story is:
Let us respect nature as it peacefully slumbers,
So it’s full of life in spring, amazing with its wonders.
